     Primary School Partnerships

Cheshunt School works closely throughout the year with our local primary feeder schools:                Andrews Lane, Bonneygrove, Burleigh, Dewhurst St Mary, Downfield, Fairfields, Flamstead End, Four Swannes, Holdbrook, Hurst Drive, Longlands and Millbrook.

Events take place throughout the year and include a number of Key Stage 2 year groups.  There is the annual STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Challenge Day for Year 5s as well as the Secondary School Experience Day which is designed to ease the transition of students from primary to secondary school.  Furthermore we often offer our facilities to the local primary schools ranging from our Food rooms and cooking equipment, to our hall areas and Design Technology workshops.  Throughout these events students benefit from the first-class teaching as well as the experience of what being in a secondary school community is all about.

Our staff have also visited local primary schools to support them with developing their curriculum in subject areas such as Modern Foreign Languages, Food and PE.  We also support sports days and subject specific subject weeks.  Our staff have also offered CPD to primary colleagues where they do not have the specialism to deliver parts of their curriculum.

The partnership work with our local primary feeder schools is a two way process and has enabled us to consult with primary colleagues about students who will  be joining us in the future as well as supporting us in ensuring our curriculum is planned to meet the needs of our students even before they arrive to us in September.   By looking at what is taught in the primary schools and looking at students work, we have been able to avoid unnecessary repetition in the core curriculum.
